British Championships 2025
10 crews featuring Whitby athletes took medals at Tynemouth for what turned out to be a truly epic weekend of big swells, sun, beautiful beaches and brilliant racing!
WCRC's womens 4x who earned a Silver Medal.
4 WCRC members earned the title of “British Champion” over the weekend, but a special mention to club Junior Harry Morley who became a double Junior British Champion at just 15 years of age. Keep an eye on this one!
Special mentions to Rebecca Smith, Emma Cassie and Hannah Risdon all earning medals in their first ever coastal races, translating their years of gig racing into sliding seat silverware!
Marc Wilson became a British Champion for the first time in the Mixed Quadruple Sculls, racing with Olympic Rower Charles Cousins at stroke, Ryanna Clifford, Tilly Woodall and cox. Rick Rouille. Silver went to the Welsh crew that included GB duo Jerry Owen and Lara Brittain. The race was neck and neck for the full course, with some great coxswaining from Rouille clinching the win on the last buoy turn. 3rd place went to Newcastle University with a crew that included Olympic Medallist Matt Wells.

32 clubs put 226 entries in making for a packed beach and a whole lot of action!
Wild conditions stopped play on Saturday leading to a jam packed Sunday of intense racing!
As a successful river rowing duo, Harry and Henry adapted brilliantly to the rigours of the sea to bring home a glorious British Silver medal in the Junior Mens Double.
The Whitby womens 50 plus masters quad were joined by Leslie Flowerdew to score an impressive Silver medal. A first coastal race for Rebecca Smith and Emma Cassie, showing that years of Whitby Gig rowing comes in quite useful!

In the Mens Open Singles race, it was James Cox (2025 European Champion) who took the gold from Charles Cousins, with WCRC's Marc Wilson coming in behind in 3rd place in a stacked race.
